Home assignment = doctors

I thought when we moved from Colorado at Christmas time to Alabama, our medical procedures were behind us. Not so. Timothy finished decompression treatment for his back last week. Gabriel had all 4 wisdom teeth removed just a week ago. Tonight, if the expected tornadoes don't interfere, Timothy will have his sleep apnea test. Didn't mention dentist in there, did I? Let's just say, I have another visit to schedule after the healing is completed, and that won't be everything either. On the other…See More

safety - AGAIN

Our God has brought us safely through so many events, that is should never surprise us when it happens again. Although Danielle and I are heading for the doctor's office this morning, we really believe we are fine even though we were rear ended Thursday night at a stop light. As the officer said, Danielle had her "crash course" in accidents. Our vehicle looked pretty good compared to the truck that hit us. That driver left the scene in an ambulance, but no blood. Personally, I was surprised at…See More

getting a job?

Danielle wants the job. Timothy and I are still catching up on sleep. Who hires an 18 year old for only 8 weeks, and then she moves away? She hopes to find that individual today. Tomorrow I help a company by staring in an interview reliving some of the details of ICA's two evacuations. The theme? How could technology have helped ICA students and families and what happened to those plans the second time around. On my own front, gearing up for teacher recruitment at 2 recruitment fairs and just…See More

routine

Praising the Lord for routine. The longest period to even be in one place since we came to the US was 3 weeks. Our new housing, WorldVenture's 3 bedroom condo, will be home for almost 10 weeks. Woo-hoo! Now to create a routine to accomplish all that needs to be done each day. Sounds silly to most of you I'm sure, as we are on furlough, but we really don't sit and do nothing. Up by 6 or so to check and answer email from BCA, monitor son's internet schooling, . . . well, you didn't really want to…See More

"Eliz, wow -- SAD stuff, and so ironic: things once saved, now lost again. May God give you the resilience needed. I'm glad you at least have good news re: Timothy's cancer check and Erica's future at Bethel!"

"Oh, by the way, congrats to D. Erica on her acceptance to Bethel! That's pretty exciting!"

"Oh, Eliz, I'm so sorry. It must be devastating to think that you've saved precious stuff from RCI just to have it destroyed here. ugh! I guess we have to be constantly reminded that the stuff of earth is temporary, but the GOOD stuff is…"

in Alabama

Last Saturday, the four of us with the car not quite to loaded, returned to Alabama. Every family member was on a mission - mine to discover what was left from the fire. Our furlough belongings had been stored in my father-in-law's shed, except for items we thought could ruin by changing weather. Unfortunately, lightning struck the building and it burnt to the ground Timothy's first Sunday back in the US. As we had already left Alabama, we only came back to charred parts that survived.Baby…See More

in Littleton

Cardens arrived safely in Littleton, CO last Sunday. While Danielle and Gabriel attend WorldVenture Camp at the home office, Timothy and I are a few miles down the road with many, many missionaries for WorldVenture Renewal. Several of the retired Cote d'Ivoire missionaries have also attended. Such fun! No cooking, no cleaning, just sitting and listening and talking, talking, talking . . .Tomorrow it is off to my sister's and former Mali colleagues. Furlough time - we have arrived.See More
