"Yes, life does go on, but it's not the same without you. Actually, I did feel kind of guilty that you weren't here and we had such a good time. But, oh how much we missed you!!! Love, Mom"

A Little bit of everything =)

You have to understand that I am a totally random person at the best of times so forgive me if I do not always make sense or go in a logical order (it may be too much to ask) but do feel free to post questions or e-mail them to me. I know it has been a while since I have posted but I feel I have a decent reason and hopefully you will agree. At exactly 2 weeks after arriving in Bolivia on a Tues during class I was sent home cause i started crying when the teacher asked how I was doing. Now…See More

Apartment Hunting in Another Culture

Posted on February 26, 2010 at 2:54pm 0 Comments

Monday night I was sitting in a taxi with Lidia and Noelia two of my language teachers who are also good friends, Noelia's cousin the taxi driver, the Realtor who was showing me an apartment and her 7 or 8 year old son who was crying about something. I was sitting between Lidia and the Realtor with her son on her lap thinking I am positive this would not be happening in the US. On the other hand I probably would not have had as much fun looking for an apartment in the US where I probably would… Continue

Having a gluten allergy in Bolivia has been more difficult then I originally thought it would be but necessity being the mother of invention I have had my share of odd experiments and fun experiences trying to replace wheat flour with stuff I can eat. For a long time I have been using flour made from Yucca root which is great if you are making Cunape but otherwise everything I made came out rather gummy, edible but not really appetizing. My solution was to buy rice and/or Quinoa flour, only one… Continue

Communion crises = )

Church on Sun. was my first real moment in Bolivia of oh no what am I going to do and the funniest part is that it had nothing to do with culture or language difference it all came down to my oh so fun gluten allergy. Near the end of the church service they brought out the juice and bread for communion which is a very normal thing except as I am sitting there in the pew I have a flash of realization that I can't eat bread now I know this and I am not sure why it took me so long to figure out… Continue
