Ministry in a nutshell--

Our passion: to be servants of the Word, reaching the Nyarafolo people group in northern Côte d'Ivoire with the Good News, and reaching out to the poor through compassion ministries
Our ministry roles:
Glenn: medical technologist/lab director at the Baptist Mission Hospital; Nyarafolo church planter and leadership mentor; field treasurer; Nyarafolo Translation Project business manager
Linn: linguist, Hebrew exegete, director of the Nyarafolo Translation Project
Together: member care (Sharpening Your Interpersonal Skills Workshop facilitators, for French and English sessions; peer responders); compassion ministries ("The Widow's Jar" widows' co-op, sponsoring various young people in school and business, showing mercy to those who come to us); encouraging the Nyarafolo Christian Community.

The Presence: Fact and Feelings

Posted on May 25, 2013 at 12:08pm 0 Comments

I'm back in Ferkessedougou, in the middle of a six-week separation from Glenn. We hadn't planned this, in fact, it was just the day before we were slated to fly out of Detroit after our home assignment that the doctor told Glenn he really needed at least five weeks of physical therapy for his painful knee. We decided that I should return without him, since many time-oriented events and task were piling up. We had peace about it, but it's never easy to be apart this long. And the…

Mirror

I am a mirror.

It boils down to this:

all the significance

I’ve longed for

is held within the simple truth

that I am a reflector.

I turn to God,

facing him in all his majesty,

to let him beam into my soul

and radiate from there

to light the world.

I must stay tuned,

sensitive to each adjustment

of my angle, knowing that

the Spirit is at work in…

Chaos and the Finger of God

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 5:00am 0 Comments

Hurricane Sandy whipped the East Coast of the U.S. to shreds, and I thought about chaos theory: a butterfly flaps its wings in Hong Kong (or Brazil/wherever) and eventually a hurricane is born. Another image that fits is that of a pebble hitting a lake’s surface and the reactionary ripple swelling outwards into a circular wave.

Then last Saturday I sat in the Tiepogovogo church looking out at the sea of people who had come to Jakarija’s wedding. I remembered Jakarija as a little boy… Continue

On a Thread (or, Turning 60)

Posted on July 14, 2012 at 2:46pm 0 Comments

Yesterday was one of those landmark birthdays, when you face again the reality of numbering your years. This time my meditations were definitely influenced by recent deaths in the families of people I care about, from young to old (7 months,  4 years, 22 years, 37 years, 94 years). And yet I am stunned at the grace that covers this privilege of being alive. Once again, I listen to my heart via my pen.

On a Thread (7-14-2012)

It’s a quick walk on a fine…

Ant Work

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 2:00pm 0 Comments

Lately our translation team has been locked in what Abdoulaye (NT translator) has dubbed "ant work." We spend days, weeks, months, going over translated texts -- copyediting, reviewing, revising, proofreading -- to get to goal. It's easy to get lost in the details. A friend brought up the truth that some people are antlike,…

Pekaly's installation, Mt 28.18-20

Dear Linnea,    just so happy you want to be in touch.

Thank you for sending the E letters.

My life is blessed beyond measure, and especially having World Venture and others to pray for and cherish.     John 15.1 - 17 was my thought today.  Especially v. 7    Three kinds of fruit -   fruit     more fruit     much fruit.     I remember that every difficulty is an opportunity for God to work.

It was great connecting with you guys on my way through. I was deeply impressed with the quality of missionaries connected to WorldVenture in that part of the world. Thanks for our chat and the soda in the airport.

Sure, I'd be honored to be your friend but I have to confess that I am really clumsy in some of these new systems. If I have a bit of time one of these first days, I'll tell you a neat story .. at least, neat in our estimation but I'm not sure to whom this will go when I click on "send"! No time though now as this is approaching Resurrection Day and we want to celebrate it to the fullest!!! So, we'll ge back later! Wow, we think of you guys often! Have a Happy New Life Day!!
