An interesting conversation

The other day I spoke with a man who is a committed Roman Catholic. A couple times the conversation centered around the fact that we humans are lost and must be forgiven of our sins in order to be saved. The only forgiveness before God comes from faith in the finished work of Christ. His last words on the cross were, "It is finished." But each time we approached that subject the man's reaction was the same: we must do penance in order to be fully forgiven. When I asked him for an example of…See More

Visits

January 31, 2012We would like to share about one family of the children at risk we have visited. One day we arrived to do the Bible study and both parents were drunk! Another day the father was at work and the mother was drunk with  with several other adults who were also drunk. One of the little girls was there by herself with those adults. We decided to take her to our house for the weekend and call a neighbor to let the mother know where her daughter was, which worked out fine because the…See More

Overnight event

December 23, 2011December 20-21 an overnight event was held for the children at risk. Things went  quite well in spite of scorching temperatures as summer began in the Southern Hemisphere,  No one got hurt, though one small boy had to be rescued from the deep end of the pool. Aside from sunburn everyone got home without any major problems. This was a great opportunity to put the children in a positive environment and have input into their lives. Some national believers made significant…See More

Thank-you for praying

December 20, 2011Thank-you for praying for the Banda del Rio Sali Church anniversary in Argentina. We thank the Lord that things went well. A number of unsaved people attended and also folks who have not been to church for a long time. My message was well-received. One lady who is not a believer said she really liked the stories I told. The next day, Sunday, some of the same unbelievers and folks who had not been attending church returned for the worship service! We are very pleased with how…See More

Church Anniversary

Greetings from Argentina. This Saturday December 17 the Banda del Rio Sali Church will celebrate its nineteenth anniversary. Each year a number of unbelievers have attended this event. The pastor asked me to preach the message and to give it an evangelistic emphasis. Please pray as I prepare and that God will use the message to reach hearts, especially those of the unsaved.Merry Christmas! Steve, for the Estes’ See More

Report on Visit

November 8, 2011The visit to the church north of us went very well. I was invited because the church celebrated it's 30th anniversary. This is the church I worked to start in 1981 when I first arrived in Argentina. The folks there really treated me like royalty! They paid for my transportation, hotel, and meals. All the seats in the church are filled every time they meet and one night I suggested they take an offering to buy more chairs. They did it and raised about $1,200 in one weekend! I…See More

Pray for my visit

This weekend, October 29-30, I will be at the church in Argentina that I worked to start in 1981. It is about 300 miles north of us and they have invited me to preach. I'm looking forward to it and request prayer that God will use my visit for his glory. I have not been able to get back there for several years. Blessings on you, Steve for the Estes'See More

The Lord blessed!

We can report about the ministry of the short-term group that came from Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, CA August 26-September 8. Even though they didn’t arrive in our area until August 27 because one of their flights arrived late, the Lord really blessed and did great things through the group. They visited well over a hundred homes and many were saved. The attendance at one church in Tucuman has nearly doubled as a result of new people attending that the folks from Shepherd won…See More

News about the children

August 23, 2011 There is some good news about the children at risk ministry. As a craft project the children have been knitting caps and scarfs. We have been having cold weather in Tucuman and the kids wear those items to school. We got to thinking they must be the envy of their classmates with their colorful scarfs and knit caps! The children are very poor and it is blessing that they are able to knit things that are so useful. Also, it is election time in Argentina. A candidate who was…See More

Progress!

August 5, 2011Our meeting with the pastor last Friday went well and we felt like some important points were clarified. Since then we met with the leadership of another church that is very interesting in a ministry to the neighborhood where the children at risk live! That is really a blessing because they want to reach the entire family of each child! We feel like having this kind of backup will produce greater results given time. The first step will be a program for adolescent young people.…See More

Prayer request for July 29, 2011

We have a prayer request that involves the ministry to children at risk. Marlene and I are going to meet this Friday July 29 with the elders of the church where the ministry meets. The hope is that things be better organized so that the ministry to the children and their families can be more effective. We also want to talk to the elders about starting a ministry to adolescents from the same neighborhood as the children. We would ask you to pray for this meeting that the Lord would guide and be…See More

Pastors' meeting July 16

The planning for the visit of the short-term group went well at the pastors' meeting, for which we thank the Lord! There is still plenty of planning and organization that needs to be done, but we are off to a good start. We are expecting the Lord to do great things when the group from Shepherd of the Hills is in Argentina August 26-September 8. Blessings on you.

Praise and Prayer

Yesterday afternoon I visited several families in la Banda del Río Salí. I encountered the following situations: a married couple in their 70s is about to separate, a young man in his 20s has a drug problem, a 16 year-old boy is getting drunk every weekend, and a 19 year-old boy just committed suicide. All these problems were encountered on the same block and a half! Obviously there is great need and important opportunities for ministry. Yesterday two people made professions of faith and others…See More

Back in Argentina

We are now safe at home in Tucuman, Argentina. It is very cold here, but we are getting along. We hear there is a heat wave in Los Angeles, where we stayed during our recent home assignment.

We had an interesting experience during our trip. Because of volcanic ash over Buenos Aires our flight landed in Santiago, Chile. When we arrived the Chilean authorities claimed that they had received a code communicating that a terrorist was on board and so they were holding the plane! Then we were taken…See More

We are in the process of sorting everything in our apartment as we prepare to leave for Argentina June 30. That means deciding what to throw away, give away, or take to Argentina. The rest gets boxed up and stored. The good folks at Village Church in Burbank, CA (bless their hearts!) have allowed us to leave boxes in their building while we are in Argentina for many years. Such sorting and storing is always stressful and even a bit sad. Many of the things we look through remind of people we…See More

Things went great at the Spanish-speaking church in Monrovia, CA May 22. The Lord worked and it was good to share the Word in Spanish again. Our son Jim started training for his new job for which he gets paid. That sure is a blessing! May 29 we were at Mission Hills Church in Mission Viejo, CA. We shared briefly in the Explorer's Sunday School Class and had a great lunch with friends/supporters (two of them were born in Argentina) who have been faithful members of the church for many years.…See More
