The following narration encapsulates my vision of what I hope will be an experience duplicated many times over as our family heads to Poland to teach English as a Foreign Language.
Mirak leaned back in his chair with his arms stretched out behind his head and his fingers interlocked. The expression on his face was one that reflected the imaginary light bulb that had just clicked on above his head.
The Gospels never cease to amaze me with their portrayal of Jesus Christ. I am still trying to learn from the Gospels. Recently I received two books in the mail-- Jesus and the Gospels by Craig Blomberg and The Historical Jesus by Gary Habermas. A lot of the content of the books is technical, but much needed in a world which 2,000 years later is still grappling with the Jesus-question: Who was/is He, and so what?

What would have happened if churches did not reproduce disciples? The obvious answer is that the Gospel would never have spread like it did. What would happen now if churches no longer reproduce disciples? Obviously, churches would disappear and Christianity would be extinct. The leaders of our international church, Il Faro, is meeting to ensure that we are reproducing mature disciples.
Pray for the leaders of the church as we meet this weekend in an attempt to clarify and affirm our… Continue

We've already learned a lot about Ramadan this month from our neighbors. This weekend is the major holiday called Korite (Eid ul-Fitr in other countries), which is the official breaking of the fasting period. As part of the celebration, the head of household will buy a goat or a sheep, or split the cost of a whole cow to share among their neighbors and friends. There is still a lot though, that I don't understand. As I type, there is some loud chanting blaring from the mosques loudspeakers… Continue
"So, my very dear friends, don't get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures."

We were dancing, three rows of women lined up facing another singer, bowed from the waist and whooshing left, then right, arms swinging in rhythm. After the singer called out each verse we stood upright to answer with the refrain, and then it was back to bending over. I felt the unity, the power of our matched movements and voices singing to the Lord to “open the door, let your children in—we’re suffering in this world.”
It was Sunday afternoon in our thatched apatâme (large gazebo),… Continue
From MacDonald's Diary of an Old Soul, (Jan. 22): Do thou, my God, my spirit's weather control;
And as I do not gloom though the day be dun,
Let me not gloom when earth-born vapors roll
Across the infinite zenith of my soul.
Should sudden brain-frost through the heart's summer run,
Cold, weary, joyless, waste of air and sun,
Thou art my south, my summer-wind, my all, my one.
In this dry season, I’ve been meditating on Psalm 1. The… Continue

He who loves will rejoice in the Truth, rejoice not in what he has been taught to believe; not in this Church's doctrine or in that; not in this issue, or in that issue; but "in the Truth." He will accept only what is real; he will strive to get at facts; he will search for Truth with a humble and unbiased mind, and cherish…
