For the last (almost) three years I have been on staff with WorldVenture at their home office in Littleton, Colorado. I have thoroughly enjoyed handling the finances for missionaries serving anywhere from three weeks to three years. Many dynamic people have come across my path granting me many interesting conversations and experiences. However, the most interesting experience I have had working at WorldVenture is working with myself.

Yes, I said that right.

As a staff member with WorldVenture I handle my own Finances and budget for my time in Poland. No need to worry, there are plenty of checks and balances in place to ensure I’m not trying to scam my way to the mission field.

Not only working in the home office of my sending organization but working in the very department that oversees me, a mid-term missionary has been quite an experience. One with many blessings as I am just a holler away from many experienced missionaries to give me advice.

One question many of the other mid-term missionaries ask me is, did you have to go through training as a missionary since you sit through it three times a year as staff? Yes, you bet I did! I loved the chance to be

just “Missionary Mallory” and not have to worry about staff duties that week.

I have fun playing both roles; I send all the same e-mails to myself that I send to other missionaries.

The coolest part of having a foot in both worlds is that I can now relate to those I work with on a deeper level. When missionaries call me to ask tips on raising support I can now speak from personal experience. Or just be a better listening ear as they talk about the struggle of balancing a full time job and raising support. Or when the economy shifts and their expenses to raise increase. I am right there with them. I always count it a blessing to be a sounding board for a fellow missionary that needs to be heard for a few minutes. Not everyone is like me and gets to work day in and day out for their sending organization.
