This morning, having loaned out our vehicle, Glenn and I stayed home from village church and listened to a podcast by Tim Keller:http://sermons2.redeemer.com/sermons/justice) The Lord has been teaching us many things about living for him lately, and it seems that most of them are about truly caring for others. This was yet another step on that journey. After listening, we prayed. Ironically enough, as we moved on to prepare lunch, two little shoe-polish boys came to the front porch to ask for a drink ("give a cup of water in My name") and to rest from their business. (They are sent out by their parents to earn money this way every day; no school for them.) So I got water, and Glenn sat with them and read a Bible story book to them, explaining the story of the Good Samaritan.

After they left we had to smile at how the Lord was underlining the sermon's main points for us. And, since I "hear" what the Lord is saying to me best with a pen in my hand, I wrote this poem. You will probably "hear" best if you listen to that awesome sermon by Tim Keller!

Shalom  © Linnea Boese 2012    (April 15, Ferke)

The fabric, once a masterpiece

of rainbow colors

and finely woven textures

is ripped.

Threads hang and ravel

with each movement,

and what had been a tear

gapes wide.

Just let it go, let the threads

die a slow death-- –

or, instead, renew them!

Go where

the rotting gap is worst,

weave in new threads,

save that piece of tapestry:

Shalom.

He made us integrated,

meant to live together

in strong community,

lovely.

But now some are undone,

left to fend off

hunger and despair,

alone.

Someday he’ll come regenerate

a lasting peace,

woven whole and beautiful

forever.

But now, for love of him

and suffering creation,

let’s tie the threads together:

Shalom.
